I just wanted to give you all an update on the success of P.U.P. 2025! Our auction went fantastic, our donors were kind and generous, and the goal of $4000 was crushed and more. In the end we donated $5733 to Pasado’s Safe Haven and couldn’t be happier that we get to support such a wonderful organization.
Thank you to all who participated, told their friends, bought auction items, and may even have a visit planned soon! You’re the best and we’re so grateful to your generosity.
We’re so excited to announce that for P.U.P. 2024, we’ll be supporting Pasado’s Safe Haven in Washington. It’s a beautiful, 85+ acre space that has hundreds of resident animals that have been neglected or abused. Check out their website here: https://www.pasadosafehaven.org/
Not only do they take in and rehabilitate animals, they have a legislative team that helps fight for laws to protect animals from abuse and neglect, which played a key role in getting animal abuse classified as a felony in WA state.
A few small changes for P.U.P. this year:
-We have merch to sell to support Pasado’s Safe Haven including P.U.P. caps, shirts, beanies, and totes.
-We will be hosting a silent auction at our facility in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. If you’re unable to come, but still want to participate, we’ll be posting on Instagram @own.healthandstrength and will accept pledges or donations from anyone, no matter where in the world you are!
-We have a donation tab on our P.U.P. website now!! Your donations will be sent to us and we’ll facilitate the transfer at the end of the month. Silent auction items can be paid through that link, or via Venmo, check, or Square (with a 3% fee.)
-There will not be any specific event day this year, we’re running the auction through the month of May, with the final day being May 31st. Winners will be contacted and have 5 days to complete the donation or it will go to the next in line, but we’ll be in contact before any of that happens! We’re reallocating the funds from hosting an event to the main donation to Pasado’s Safe Haven. If you want to come in and check out the silent auction items in person, let us know!
We’re very excited to be going into our 6th year, and we’re very excited to support yet another wonderful organization helping animals in need. In the past 5 years of doing P.U.P. we’ve been able to donate almost $13,000.00 to local animal rescues, which feels pretty cool. Check out our updated website to see who we’ve supported and what we’ve done in the past. Every year we have a different method for the same wonderful goal- to help support animals in need and the humans that care for them. Our goal this year is to do around $3500, and I think that we can do it!
Stay tuned for more PUPDATES and let us know if you have any questions!
The third annual Push Ups for Pups has arrived, and I am so excited (and a decent amount of “nervous” lol.)
We’ll be live and in-person and the O.W.N. Health & Strength Facility, in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle, as well as going live on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pnwPUP) starting at 12:30pm on May 1st, 2021.
If you’d like some comradery while performing your first day of reps- we gotchu.
If you’d like help on your technique- we gotchu.
If you’d like to interact with like-minded animal loving people, or bring your pup by for a goodie bag- we gotchu!
If you’re unable to make the event or stream live, have no fear, P.U.P. is all month long this year! We have a nifty little tracking sheet (right click and download the photo below or under the “sign me up” tab) so you can keep track of your reps all month long so you know your final tally. (Psst, there might be an extra prize for those who complete their initial goal and turn in their cards… just sayin’.)
Download, track your reps, and submit with your donation to be entered into a special drawing!
I haven’t announced this until now, but my goal this year is to perform 1,000 reps throughout the month! It will be a mixture of squats and push-ups, probably some goofy posing, maybe a dance, and hopefully some doggy cameos from Jack Barkins and Misty Jones! I’ll also be posting updates on the Facebook page, and @ownfitnesspnw on Instagram, as well as sharing “pup-dates” with all of you wonderful humans!
Please reach out to shea@ownfitnesspnw.com if you have any questions for me, need form tips, or just want to say hello!
Hope to see you all soon!! Let’s do it for the doggos!!
P.U.P. coming up before you know it (23 days if you don’t feel like counting!)
Okay, so I know this is to help the doggos (and all of the wonderful creatures) at Motley Zoo Animal Rescue, but I also want you to feel confident with your participation! The reason we recommend training for this isn’t just so you do a bunch of reps and support a wonderful cause, but we want you to feel strong and confident in your own body as well.
We have a new tab up with instructional videos! It might be great for you to check out if:
– you’ve never been coached through push up or squat form
-you had a trainer/coach/push up mentor in the past, but want a refresher
-you’ve been doing them for years, but always feel it in your *insert any of the following: shoulders/neck/elbows/low back/wrists/etc.*
-you think you know it all, but are just a tiny bit curious (go ahead, we won’t judge.)
If you try any of those out and still have questions, send an email to shea@ownfitnesspnw.com with the title PUPTIME, and I’ll do what I can to help out!
Planning on coming to an in person or virtual event? We’ll have a few minutes of intro coaching, and can always help cue things if you want us to! If not, do your thing and listen to your body!
What are you most excited about for P.U.P. 21?! Share it on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/pnwPUP/ or on Instagram and tag @ownfitnesspnw and @motleyzoocrew.
Can’t wait to see you all, and get to work trainin’ peeps! We’re gonna make this year our best one yet for the doggos, and for our collective strength!
Well, it’s really simple here. This is the first official “pupdate” ever on our new P.U.P. page! Thank you so much for being here, and we can’t wait to have you participate in this year’s third annual Push Ups for Pups challenge to benefit the Motley Zoo Animal Rescue in Redmond, WA.
Why did we choose them? SO MANY REASONS! I was first connected with them through my dear friend and amazing pet photography, Marika at Dirtiedog Photography. (Check out her website! So much talent capturing pure cuteness! -> https://www.dirtiedogphotography.com/) She’d done work with them in the past and knew the organization well. After connecting with the wonderful humans over there, I started to do more research and learn what I could about the organization.
They’re a foster based rescue, meaning they have a team of amazing volunteers and fosters that help care for the animals while they wait for their forever homes. You know why I appreciate that? First, these wonderful people are caring for an animal that needs help; that takes a very special person. Second, the fact that the animals get to live in a calm, loving environment, vs. a shelter makes me very happy since the animals will endure less stress, and I want to support that. (Nothing against shelters, we need them as well until all people are better. I just love that these animals get to have a nice life while waiting for their next chapter.) I totally agree with the fact that it’s giving these specific animals their best shot, because nobody is the best representation of themselves when they’re stressed out. I know I am not, at least.
Then on their website I found their shop. O. M. G. I truly have found my people. I never knew I needed to find “my people,” but here we are! They combine rock n’ roll/punk rock/metal bands with animals to make puns. So check, check, check, for me!! I bought my “Mispits” shirt right away, and bought my family shirts as well so we could rep the brand while we put in work. To be honest, it’s still one of my favorite shirts, but I’ve expanded my collection. I even bought my husband one of their new shirts that says “Obeys Basic Commands,” which he won’t wear outside of our home. (He thought I meant it towards him, but I got it to represent Misty Toot, our younger pup. She literally does the basic stuff and that’s it. I got him “Food Motivated” to represent Jack Jack, but it may or may not apply to him as well lol.) Anyways, check out their shop -> https://www.motleyzooanimalrescue.org/online-store
AWESOME, RIGHT?!
Along with them being kind and rescuing animals, they’re super cool humans! They’ve been around since 2009 and have saved well over 3000 animals, which is ridiculous and amazing. I believe that they are the best chance at finding the perfect home for the animals they take in, and I want to support that how I can. Unfortunately, I am unable to foster at the moment, and I can’t bankroll them how I want to, yet. SO, instead of just feeling like I can’t help, I am doing what I can do to try to get more people involved with supporting them, spreading the word about the animals they help, and hopefully inspiring people to do challenging things.
“Adversity has the effect of drawing out strength and qualities of a man that would have laid dormant in its absence.”
Herodotus
Based on everything I’ve seen with my 20 year relationship with animal rescue, animals are amazingly resilient and strong. They endure the unimaginable, and yet still have strength, love, and hope. If they can do that, we can conquer our dislike of “push ups” or the feeling of defeat before we even begin. Let the animals be an inspiration to you, to try new things, to learn a new skill, or maybe do something you don’t love, but do it for a great cause. Motley Zoo is doing the groundwork, they’re in it, they live it, and my hope is to inspire people to support them however possible! Animals are a gift in our lives, and we all need to appreciate what they do for us just by existing.
The “RUFFle” prizes will be announced soon, so sign up for the “pupdates” to learn about those, social media challenges, and like our Facebook page -> https://www.facebook.com/pnwPUP)
I can’t wait to see you all soon and I hope you’re practicing your push ups (or squats!) Let me know if you need help with form or check out our tab for instructional videos (coming soon!)
